I have an older Marlin 882 with only one screw/bolt holding the entire action/barrel assembly to the stock. I want to have a custom stock made but i'm being told that they only make stocks with 2 screws ...I have a couple of 981's and the 881/883 stocks worked but I had to modify the stocks a bit to make it work. There's a link at the top of this Marlin Bolt section detailing how to do it. I would thing a 782/882 stock might work the same with your 982....below is a link to Numrich, and they have wood stocks for the 882. You might try it...

Matt_H. Probably the most important difference is the safety. On the 783, the safety is applied by pushing forward. On the 883, the safety is applied by pulling to the rear.
