I looked up the head casting numbers 3998920 and it said they are 72-73 350. The intake valves are big on these heads.

The difference is the suffix code on the block. Could be a 145 HP 350 from a 1975 caprice. Could be a DZ 302. The difference is the code on the front of the passenger side. Just above where the water pump bolts.

The last six numbers are a part of the vehicle VIN. These numbers match what is on the vehicle when it was built at the factory, hence #'s matching.Chevy Small Block Engine Casting Codes. GM built the 350 using the same length rods and a longer stroke. This screwed up the ratio. To fix what GM screwed up, ya' need to put 6.0" rods in a 350. Then it'll behave better.
